Modafinil UK

Modafinil UK

Modafinil is a wakefulness-promoting drug used by prescription to treat narcolepsy, sleep apnoea and shift workers who experience sleep disturbances. Modafinil offers the user a state of alertness and increased efficiency in cognitive activity. While other stimulants come with side effects which include nervous tension, agitation and even paranoia, Modafinil’s action is clean and without these side effects. Many people report an increase in motivation and some mood elevation, as well. Buying Modafinil in the UK is popular among people who want to boost their mental performance, productivity and academic success.

How it Works

Numerous studies have been conducted on Modafinil in both rodents and humans. The exact mechanism of action remains unclear but we do have a good understanding of how Modafinil works in general. Modafinil helps to elevate levels of hypothalamic histamine while inhibiting many of the actions of the dopamine transporter. This inhibition leads to a boost in extracellular and synaptic concentrations of dopamine. Many user experiences with Modafinil state that this drug has a positive influence on mood and drive which are likely consequences in this increase in dopamine stimulation.

Another mechanism of action which has garnered research involves a brain peptide known as orexin. Orexin, also called Hypocretin, is a neurotransmitter that regulates arousal, wakefulness and appetite. Orexin neurons can be found within our hypothalamus, but are also projected out to several different parts of the brain, most of which are associated with wakefulness and arousal. They are part of the hormonal system that keeps you alert and aware during the day but also allows you to sleep at night.

How Can I Get Modafinil in the UK?

In recent years, Modafinil has become somewhat of a notorious smart drug, sought after by individuals who may or may not have a legitimate medical need for it. After a profile in Rolling Stone magazine about buying Modafinil without a prescription from online pharmacies, there have been a number of questions raised about the legal status of this drug around the world.

Is Modafinil legal in the UK and what are the requirements for buying it?

The United Kingdom regulates medications and assigns them to Schedules based on their potential for serious side effects and their potential for addiction. Modafinil is not a Scheduled drug. This means there are no laws controlling its possession within the UK.

If you choose to import your prescription of Modafinil, bear in mind you may be required to provide proof of a prescription to customs officials, should they inspect your package and wish to request proof from you. Importation should be in small quantities which are considered for personal use only. Normally, this means a 30-90 day supply can be imported at any given time.

Can I Import Without a Prescription?

Though there are many providers willing to sell Modafinil online outside the UK, we don’t recommend it. Doing so involves risking your financial details and possibly never receiving the goods you intended to purchase. If your order does arrive, it can be difficult to know if you have received an authentic or pure product or some unknown and possibly dangerous substitute. Most of the offshore providers for Modafinil are located in India or other countries where regulations are lax. This means there is the possibility that your product may be delayed or seized at the border and in most cases you will not receive a refund or compensation unless the product is returned to the vendor. Some individuals have reported success when ordering online, but remember the risk potential is high.

Armodafinil vs Modafinil

Armodafinil vs Modafinil

Armodafinil vs Modafinil

Modafinil and Armodafinil are both pharmaceuticals helps to normalize sleep patterns and then acts as a wakefulness agent, allowing you to go about your daily life without constant fatigue.

  • Chemistry. modafinil contains 50% r-modafinil (armodafinil) and 50% s-modafinil. Therefore, modafinil already contains 50% armodafinil – so you’ve already tried armodafinil if you’ve taken modafinil before.
  • Duration. Armodafinil lasts a few hours longer than modafinil. This is problematic for some users prone to insomnia.
  • Effects. Armodafinil and Modafinil have essentially identical effects in the brain
  • Potency. Armodafinil is a more expensive, purified and potent form of modafinil that requires a slightly lower dose (150mg vs 200mg)
  • Efficacy. There is no evidence that armodafinil is more effective than modafinil at their indicated doses. If you’re rolling in cash, you may want to shell out to get armodafinil instead of modafinil, but otherwise, it’s not worth it.
  • Date of FDA approval. Modafinil was discovered and used clinically prior to the introduction of armodafinil. Modafinil was approved by the FDA in 1998, whereas armodafinil was approved in June, 2007

(source: http://www.brainprotips.com/armodafinil-vs-modafinil/)

So that’s the official stance on the difference between the two.

What I found was I am used to the Modafinil, I cycle between a 1 week on 1 week off or 2 days on 5 days off, I have built up a slight tolerance to modafinil. Armodafinil on the other hand I had never tried. The first day on Armodafinil was like the scene from limitless everything just clicked into place, I was hyper focused, I completed a weeks’ worth of work in one day, I built a new website in 2 hours. The last time I felt like that was my first time on Modafinil!!!

Armodafinil Vs Modafinil is there any real difference? The answer is NO!!!

If you have been on modafinil a while and you feel it’s not working as well as it could swap out and go on Armodafinil for a while. I believe this will be the best of both worlds. Constantly swap between the two as not to build up a tolerance or a dependency.

How to take Modafinil – A First Time users guide

How to take Modafinil

How to take Modafinil

First-Time users guide

The question I get asked more than any other is: “Any advice on How to take Modafinil?”

Modafinil is mainstream now, all of my friends have tried it at least once and it is constantly in the media, especially around “is it cheating if students use it as a study aid”.

I’m not a medical expert here, you should seek advice from your GP if you decide to take any medications, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Modafinil is not a crutch, it is a tool to be used that can be very beneficial.

That said, there are a few things you should do when taking Modafinil (whether it’s your first time or 100th time), but first, let’s get back to basics;

What is Modafinil?

Modafinil is a mild stimulant that has the ability to keep you awake, mentally alert, and productive for long periods of time without sleep. Consequently, it can provide a huge advantage to students, business people, and anyone that needs to get more work done than normal hours allow.

How to take Modafinil, First Time Users Try this.

Order your Modafinil here, if ordered before 4 pm it will be with you the following day. Compared to prescription stimulants, Modafinil has few side effects. If anything, you’re probably a little curious and somewhat excited about taking it for the first time – embrace it.

With that in mind, get the following handled and you’ll have a pleasant and productive Modafinil experience.

1.Timing

Take Modafinil first thing in the morning, this is not an exact science but based on personal experience. Some prefer to wake up earlier then lay in bed until it kicks in, some take up upon waking and others wait 30-45 minutes after they wake up. This is not an exact science but based on personal experience.

I’m not sure when you wake up, but I recommend taking it no later than 8 AM.

It takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes for Modafinil to start working. The effects last 10-12 or more hours, so any later than 8 AM and you may have trouble falling asleep.

2.Dosage

If it’s your first time, take half a pill. For Modalert 200, half is 100 mg. For Waklert 150, that would be 75 mg. (read more about Modafinil dosage here). It’s easy to break the pill in half, you can use your hands or a knife.

I take mine with a can of Red Bull, Modafinil and caffeine are fine to take together, but you don’t need caffeine to help wake up or focus. Take it easy on the energy drinks and coffee.

3.Food

Taken on an empty stomach is the most effective way to take Modafinil. You will still get the full effect if you take it after eating, but it may take longer to start working. The important thing is to remember to eat throughout the day as you normally would. Modafinil suppresses your appetite (some people use it for weight loss), so skipping meals might seem like no big deal. Stick to a normal eating schedule and avoid any unpleasant side effects.

Most importantly: drink LOTS of water when you take Modafinil. This is especially true when taking it with caffeine.

The most common side effect of Modafinil is a dehydration headache the next day, this can kill any gains and make the whole experience a negative one.

4.Plan

Plan your day out in advance, Modafinil will get super focused so ensure you are focusing on the right things. Ideally, plan the day out beforehand, plan your water and food breaks, it is too easy to forget to stop. It is difficult to get distracted but if you do you will be focused on the distraction so be wary of your workspace and working environment.

What to expect when taking Modafinil?

As well as “How to take Modafinil”, I’m also asked, “What Effects can I expect when taking it”.

Once again Modafinil is a tool and not a crutch. It cannot perform miracles and as ever you need to use the right tool for the right job.

If you are tired, Modafinil can make you feel better than you feel when you are not tired, even if feeling tired means operating on only 2 hours of sleep.

Modafinil makes it harder to interact with people. You don’t feel awkward, shy, or uncomfortable around others and your conversation flows more eloquently than usual. However, most conversations bore you and you have little interest in people

Modafinil makes you feel confident, but it does not make you feel happy. However, if you feel sad and grumpy when you get tired, Modafinil will alleviate bad moods caused by lack of sleep.

Modafinil makes you more productive and able to work for longer.

Modafinil keeps you awake, but you are still prone to make typical sleep-deprived errors. However, since you are more alert with Modafinil, you are much more likely to catch your errors soon after you make them.

Modafinil does not prevent your eyes from getting tired if you are sitting at a computer for a long period of time.

Modafinil amplifies the effects of caffeine.

It’s easy to underestimate the effects of Modafinil once you take it regularly for a little while. Tolerance actually builds quite slowly

As a general rule, assume that Modafinil will keep you wide awake and productive for 12 hours. You can expect Modafinil to last up to 16 hours if you have some caffeine while under its influence.

Modafinil produces the urge to check and recheck the solutions to math and science problems. You also will compulsively edit any written work; you will read each sentence again and again to ensure perfection.

Modafinil can make you less interested in sex.

You can work all night and your mind will be resilient, but your body will still feel fatigued from working so long and avoiding sleep. Taking breaks to eat and drink water is vital and helps maintain your focus and avoid side effects like pressure headaches.

Modafinil can limit the ability to do creative work.

Modafinil Side Effects

Modafinil Side Effects

Modafinil Side Effects

Many people reporting no Modafinil side effects at all, which has led to the popularity of this Nootropic. However, some users do experience different side effects which can cause some discomfort. This article details how you can avoid or reduce the side effects of Modafinil and Armodafinil, as many of them are not precisely caused by the medicine but rather by changes in your habits that it tends to create. Clinical trials of Modafinil have shown it to be very safe and agreeable with virtually everyone, but there are some who experience mild symptoms as well as the rare severe symptom.

First of all, it’s worth mentioning that side effects tend to scale with dosage. Most people try 200mg of Modafinil, but many people find that half a dose is enough to increase productivity and performance without side effects. If you find that these tips don’t work for you, consider lowering your dosage.

Reducing Modafinil Side Effects

Modafinil side effects No.1 – Headache

One of the most common complaints from people who take Modafinil is having headaches during the day. Roughly 8% of users report headaches as a symptom. Usually, they aren’t very severe, but they can be distracting and irritating when they occur. The main reason headaches occur is that Modafinil, like many other stimulants, is a diuretic. This means that you’re more likely to urinate throughout the day and water passes through your system faster, meaning you will get dehydrated faster. In fact, this is generally understood as the same mechanism behind the dreaded hangover headache. You wake up horrifically dehydrated and feeling as though you were a living desert, and the subsequent headache lasts a while as you replenish your fluids.

Solution: Drink more water. Make it a point to keep a bottle around while you’re on Modafinil, and fill it up. I normally drink 2-3 bottles a day, and up that to 4-5 if I’m on Modafinil and experience no problems.

Also, if you’re a frequent caffeine user, avoid ditching your morning coffee when you use Modafinil. Caffeine withdrawal leads to headaches, and while you might not feel the need for the extra energy, have one cup instead of your usual three and you’ll avoid the awful caffeine headache later on.

Modafinil side effects No.2 – Dry Mouth

Like the previous symptom, relatively few people complain of dry mouth, but it occurs in about 5-6% of individuals. The reason is exactly the same as the previous one: a lack of water.

Solution: Drink more water. It’s not too hard to interpret your body’s symptoms. Dry mouth means you need more liquids.

Modafinil side effects No.3 – Nausea

Nausea is even less common, with only 4% of users reporting it. There are a few possible explanations. One goes back to the dehydration point. Your body needs water to help move food through your stomach and if it gets dry it can lead to more sensitivity and stomach pain, which will lead to nausea.  You may also not feel as hungry and food may seem less appealing as Modafinil has been proven to reduce appetite. People who report nausea tend to also report this with other types of medicines, so if you know you have a tendency to feel nauseous on certain medications it’s more likely to happen with Modafinil as well. It seems to be most common in the morning, or shortly after taking Modafinil.

Solution: Have a light breakfast before taking your pill. Stay hydrated. Avoid heavy meals when you’re not in the mood, although don’t stop eating altogether.

Modafinil side effects No.4 – Feeling Nervous or Agitated

This symptom is reported in about 5% of users, and it’s much more common on higher doses (9% with 400mg users in clinical trials). Regarding agitation, it seems that as Modafinil tends to lock you into an activity with greater concentration, breaking that concentration can be more annoying than usual. If you’re aware of it, you can attempt to fight it back by simply counting to three before switching tasks. As far as feeling nervous is concerned, some people find themselves fidgety or antsy with the extra energy they have. This is often the result of a lack of things to do or disorganization during a Modafinil day.

Solution: Breath before responding, think before you speak. Keep a list of things to do and make sure you check it off as you go. The mental satisfaction of accomplishing your to-dos will outweigh the possible negative influence of Modafinil and keep you cheerful.

Modafinil side effects No.5 – Trouble Sleeping

Alright, this one is entirely the result of a lack of common sense, but let’s talk about it anyway. Modafinil tends to last about 12 hours and Armodafinil generally 2-3 more. Most people report trouble sleeping whilst on Modafinil, which is the point of the pill seeing as it was designed to treat sleep disorders such as narcolepsy. So don’t be surprised when you can’t nap. Also, don’t be shocked if you took your pill at 10 AM and can’t fall asleep at 10 PM.

Solution: Simple. Plan your day well. Take your Modafinil in anticipation of your bedtime. I usually get up at 6 and go to bed around 10.

Serious Modafinil Side Effects (Call a doctor)

Serious side effects are very rare with Modafinil, showing up in roughly 1% of the sample populations from studies, based on the number of participants who quit using the drug. However, they include some of the following:

Fever, including vomiting, headache, blistering and skin peeling

Bruising or easier bruising

Excessive bleeding

White patches or sores inside the mouth

Mental symptoms such as hallucinations, depression, severe anxiety

Chest pains

Fever, excessive bleeding and bruising, and sores in the mouth generally indicate an allergy to the medicine, and it should be stopped immediately. Mental symptoms are usually the result of previously undiagnosed conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, although these have never been shown to be brought on by Modafinil. Chest pains are also usually indicative of an underlying condition. Modafinil accelerates the heart and can increase blood pressure, so chest pains are a sign of other heart conditions being exacerbated by Modafinil’s effects.

Solution: Call a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms, and stop taking Modafinil immediately. There are no recorded fatalities related to Modafinil, and it’s extremely safe having passed a battery of tests and trials. However, safety comes first, so do not take these symptoms lightly if you develop them.

Modafinil Dosage

Modafinil Dosage

Modafinil Dosage

If you read reports from various Modafinil users you’ll see quite the variety of recommendations when it comes to Modafinil dosage, with equally varying results. It’s important to understand that each person’s biochemistry is unique and that while most people should respond the same, some people may respond quite differently to Modafinil. But why does this happen? And what Modafinil dosage is ideal?

Some people complain of a lack of effect on Modafinil. Modafinil dosage is dependent on body mass, a larger person is going to need more of a medicine to have the same effects as a smaller person. In addition, there are certain genetic factors which can affect your processing of Modafinil. The most common reason why a person feels unusually more or fewer effects from a drug is that they have an abnormal amount of cytochrome P450.

P450 is a family of enzymes that work in the liver to break down complex chemicals, most commonly pharmaceuticals. An excess of this enzyme would result in the body breaking down the material quicker and limiting its potency, while a deficit will mean that more of the medicine enters the bloodstream, resulting in increased potency. Generally, if you respond to medicines normally without requiring a special dosage, your P450 is probably fine. However, it can be inhibited by other means, particularly citrus fruits and their juices. Grapefruit juice is a powerful inhibitor of P450 and can cause other substances to become more potent. Whether this works for Modafinil or not is still under debate, but it’s likely that it would have an impact.

So with those points aside, let’s look at some of the dosages and their effects.

Low Modafinil dosage: 100mg or lower

Modafinil is active at doses as low as 20mg. Several clinical trials have explored using Modafinil in low doses for specific applications, such as treating addiction. It’s clear that Modafinil works at these levels but without noticeable effects. On the low end, these doses are unlikely to result in a very productive day.

But doses near the 100mg mark are quite common and popular. I myself use 100mg when I have a light day and don’t feel the need for a full 200mg, but would like the extra energy and focus. Low doses also make your money go further, which is useful if you’re on a tight budget. Also, low doses tend to reduce or outright eliminate the occurrence of side effects, great if you find Modafinil uncomfortable for whatever reason.

Low doses are often recommended for new users to get a feel for Modafinil and find out whether or not a full dose is necessary. Considering the aforementioned diversity among users, it’s not a bad idea to play it safe the first time around and take a smaller dose, lest you find yourself over-stimulated or affected by side effects, however rare that may be.

A low dose will have a similar peak to a standard dose, meaning about 8-12 hours of peak performance. However, a low dose tends to decline quickly once it nears the half-life and from there may not be effective. Sleep comes easier on a low dose, I’ve even been able to take a nap.

Standard Modafinil dosage: 200mg

This is the gold standard of Modafinil doses, the pill arrives in a neat 200mg disc, you pop it out of the foil, swallow it down, and get to work. Tried, tested, true, there’s little that you can’t do with 200mg of Modafinil. Having said that, some people find the dose to be a bit excessive or over stimulating, particularly people with lower body masses.

Clinical trials have shown that the 200mg range tends to have a very low incidence of side effects, with less than 10% of users reporting any issues, mostly minor.

A 200mg dose should last for 12 hours and from there wear out in a couple of hours. Sleeping while on a 200mg dose is very difficult so you should plan accordingly.

Some people divide a 200mg dose into two 100mg doses. This can be good if you want to have peak effects for a short while, perhaps your morning work, and then another dose in the afternoon. Neither dose is very large, allowing you to take one in the morning and one before lunch and still sleep well, and you benefit from two peaks of energy during the day. However, some people find that short-term tolerance builds and that the second dose is not as effective as the first.

Large Modafinil dosage: 400mg

Doses of 400mg are not generally issued by doctors unless a patient is unresponsive to a standard 200mg dose. However, considering the increased frequency of users taking Modafinil without a prescription, reports of people taking larger doses are becoming more common. Most users report no adverse effects but find instead an improvement in wakefulness and alertness. It seems that those who experience side effects will feel them more on 400mg and those who don’t normally get them may experience them slightly or not at all.

Larger doses can also be achieved by taking 200mg twice in the same day. This isn’t usually recommended as it’s likely to make sleep difficult, but with proper timing, it can work well. A friend of mine was taking 200mg at 6 AM and another 200mg at 12 PM before lunch. He’d end up getting 18 hours of video editing a day done during the course of a week, before getting to bed at 12 PM.

A 400mg dose will last longer than a normal dose, and the intensity of the effects will be greater for a longer duration, but the same half-life applies and it will eventually fade out, albeit a few hours later. It’s more likely that your dose will provide more than 12 hours, closer to 15, of good solid Modafinil time.

Large doses are perfectly safe and have been clinically approved. However, it’s still recommended that you don’t take a large dose as your first one, just in case you might be allergic to the medication.

Very Large Modafinil dosage: 400mg+

Doses over 400mg are rarely reported, although the few reports I’ve found on forums and Reddit seem to indicate that they are safe, though rarely needed. These cases are generally seen as one-time incidents: Perhaps somebody has to cram for a major test and needs to go full speed for a couple of days, that’s the type of situation that calls for a very large dose, although one user mentioned consistently needing 800mg-1200mg to get an effect.

Very large doses are not recommended as their safety has not been thoroughly tested, although if it’s an occasional activity it’s probably not dangerous. Doses of several grams have been tested on humans with no serious adverse effects.

Is there a way to make Modafinil more potent?

Aside from the dubious suggestion of using grapefruit juice, which is not widely recommended as its effect is unconfirmed and it can have adverse reactions with other drugs, there IS an effective way to increase Modafinil’s strength.

Sublingual absorption of Modafinil (under the tongue) can increase the potency and reduce the time it takes to kick in. The area under the tongue is full of mucous membranes which will go directly through the bloodstream, bypassing metabolism in your stomach. This makes for a more potent delivery of Modafinil and less loss due to biological factors. Some users report crushing 50mg to consume sublingually and find this as potent as a 100mg dose. Be advised, pills and their binders tend to be bitter and not very pleasant in the mouth.

When you’re trying to figure out how much Modafinil to take, consider these experiences and those of others, and remember that everybody’s response to medicine can be different. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure of how best to proceed.
